About Me
About Me
Hi, I’m Dr Claire Nussey, Clinical Psychologist (although I prefer just ‘Claire’).
Thank you for landing here.
A few things are known to be important for successful outcomes in therapy. This includes your therapist having the appropriate knowledge, training, experience and passion for the concerns you are bringing to therapy. And there being a good match or “fit” between you and your therapist, including genuine connection and a sense of trust/ safety.
So please have a read through and if you get that impression about me, please get in touch by email or phone.
My style
I asked a bunch of psychology colleagues to describe me in a few words, to help you get a sense of me as a psychologist. The most common were: Thoughtful, compassionate, professional.
I aim to create an environment where you can show up as your authentic self. So I am genuine and straight talking (in a supportive way). This means I listen carefully to your experiences and concerns, explain things clearly, am approachable and share my thoughts and ideas kindly, respectfully and honestly. I also think there is a place for a little humour in the therapy room – we are humans after all.
I encourage you to be straight talking with me – if I misunderstand something or something about my approach isn’t working for you, you can tell me and we can discuss next steps. The aim is that we are working together collaboratively, as a team. We will also regularly review our work to ensure we are staying on track to help you achieve your therapy goals.
Drawing from systemic theory, I am reflective about the multifaceted nature of our identities (including gender, age, cultural background, economic background, education/occupation, sexuality, religion, ability), and how this may privilege or disempower, and will always strive to use this awareness transparently and productively in our work together. I acknowledge that I am constantly learning and updating my knowledge.
Areas of interest
I enjoy working with adults (over 25 years) of all genders and backgrounds.
I particularly enjoy working with older adults, neurodivergent individuals, people in the (peri-post)menopausal period, and people who have acquired PTSD from work, such as police officers.
I currently predominantly work within EMDR and schema therapy frameworks, but always draw on other evidence-based therapies as indicated, depending on what is right for you.
Concerns that I can help with include:
- Anxiety
- Depression
- Trauma symptoms
- Sleep problems
- Navigating life transitions
- Grief and loss
- Living with pain, chronic illness or disability
- Recovering after workplace injury
- Cutting down on alcohol or other drug use
I do not offer therapy to children or young adults under 25 years, couples, or families, nor do I offer perinatal nor parenting support. I do not offer services / write reports for legal purposes.
I am not currently able to offer eating disorder support (e.g. via Eating Disorder Care Plans) although this may be a future offering.
If your needs are more complex, or urgent, I may suggest alternative services (see resources page).
Training
Aligned with my areas of interest and experience, I have completed additional training in a variety of therapeutic modalities, including:
- Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) e.g. Inference-Based CBT
- Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT)
- Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)
- Schema Therapy (Level 1)
- Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) Therapy – I am currently working towards accredited practitioner status with EMDR Association of Australia
- Systemic therapies (solution focused therapy, narrative therapy, family therapy theories)
I engage in ongoing professional development to ensure that I am culturally and trauma-informed, neurodiversity-affirming and affirming of all abilities as well as gender and sexualities.
Experience
I grew up in London and spent around 10 years working in the National Health Service (NHS) across neuropsychology and older adult mental health services. This sparked my interest in understanding holistically how people make sense of their experiences and overcome adversity across the lifespan.
After moving to Australia in 2016, I spent several years in a primary care service, supporting adults from all walks of life – including aged care residents, people wanting to reduce their drug or alcohol use, women in the perinatal period, and those experiencing suicidal thoughts or self-harm urges. I also held management roles in the same organisation, because I value creating supportive, compassionate environments for both clients and colleagues.
Later, I moved into private practice, focusing on assessment and therapy for neurodivergent individuals as a special interest area. I also became passionate about supporting individuals in the (peri-post)menopausal period. I have enjoyed supporting people to recover from workplace injuries / PTSD from work, such as police officers. Over time, my work has been driven by a strong belief that therapy should feel safe, human and empowering – a space where people can (re)connect with who they are and what matters most to them.
After 14 years as a Clinical Psychologist, I established Good Egg Psychology in 2025 to offer a small, down to earth, inclusive service where everyone is treated as an individual. My goal is to provide a genuinely personalised experience – one that helps people overcome mental health challenges and reclaim a sense of meaning, confidence and hope in their lives.
